I have taken depo provera for 11 years now. I am 32.. I love it. At first I gained around 10 lbs, which I have lost, I still do not have a menstral cycle (which I love), and I lost my sex drive (didn't take long to come back). I got off long enough to get pregnant with my baby girl (very healthy). It took me 1 year from my last shot to get pregnant. I then got back on it and have taken it ever since. I absolutely love it. I have not had any side effects besides the ones listed above. I recommend it to all my friends and anyone I meet. Like any drug, it will react different on different people. I just want people to know that it isn't bad for everyone.

I had been on depo for 13 years. A little weight gain, no prob. Periods and cramps stopped, yipee...3 weeks ago I felt a lump in my breast. I went for a mammogram and they have found 13 cysts so far, some are "cloudy" which I guess is a big concern. After discovering the cysts they suggested a bone density test...guess what? Osteopenia in my right hip. I never thought I had any side effects from this, I thought it was wonderful as well. Until 3 weeks ago when my world was turned upside down. I really suggest you get a bone density test and a mammogram and ultrasound on your breasts. Cysts and breast cancer are also a side effect from this "wonder-drug". I was at a doctors office and asked to see a list of side effects after finding my cysts. A nurse handed me the generic list that they give patients and I said I want the list that the doctors get, I want the real list...she handed me a booklet that the docs get and guess what the first side effect listed was? Breast Cancer. Its easy to think there are no side effects until you find a little lump and find out your side effects are way to serious to fix by just stopping it. Pleaseeeeeee get checked. FYI, there is no history of breast cysts or cancer anywhere in my family, I just turned 40 and am close to osteoperosis which I KNOW is a side effect of depo. I never "felt" any side effects, never had problems..until I found my lump. Just cuz some of us might feel good, doesnt mean our bodies arent being destroyed on the inside. Pleaseeeeee get those tests...
